1. How to Read This Chart

Every value below is the catalog-calibrated weight of a cast steel (ASTM A216 WCB) valve with raised-face flanged ends, handwheel or lever operated, bonnet included, pressure-tested and painted — i.e., the number that shows up on a freight booking. Check valves are bolted-bonnet swing pattern; ball valves NPS ≤ 6" are floating ball, NPS ≥ 8" trunnion mounted (most catalogs quote these with gear operators, which the underlying engine factors in).

Accuracy band: ±10–15% versus any specific manufacturer's catalog. That is deliberate and honest — ASME B16.34 sets minimum wall thickness, not exact mass, and two compliant valves of the same tag can legitimately differ by 10%. Use these numbers for freight planning, load-out lists, and BOM weight roll-ups; use certified weights for customs-critical declarations.

5. What the Numbers Tell You

Read down a column and three procurement facts jump out:

  • Weight grows faster than price. A 24" Class 150 gate valve weighs ~1,470 kg but costs perhaps 15× a 2" valve, not 70×. Large valves are disproportionately heavy relative to their cost — freight can rival the FOB price on big-bore orders.
  • The class premium compounds with size. Moving 6" gate from 150# to 600# adds ~180 kg; moving 12" adds ~680 kg. High-class large valves drive both structural steel and rigging requirements.
  • Ball valves overtake gate valves in weight at large NPS. Below NPS 8" a ball valve is lighter than a gate valve; above it, trunnion construction and gear operators make it heavier — visible directly in the charts.

This page is not a scanned PDF — the tables are generated at build time by the same engine that powers the calculator. Base values were compiled from published cast-steel valve catalog weight charts: gate, globe and check values cross-checked against a widely referenced public catalog compilation; Class 150 ball values against a published API 6D full-bore ball valve dimension and weight chart. Sizes without a direct public reference were interpolated along the type's own weight curve.

Structural length (face-to-face) follows ASME B16.10 long patterns for gate/globe/check and API 6D patterns for ball valves — the calculator shows the reference dimension per selection. Standards context: ASME B16.34 for pressure-temperature ratings and wall thickness, API 600/602/594/608/6D for the design types.

If a supplier's quoted weight differs from this chart by more than 15–20%, ask why: it usually means a different wall schedule, a gear operator you didn't expect, or a wafer body quoted against a flanged chart line.
